In this release, you'll find many enhancements and updates designed to deliver a better user experience ... and we've fixed some things as well.
We'll start by highlighting some new and improved features that we think you'll find valuable. After that, you'll find details of everything included in this release.
Release highlights
More options for sharing
A new context submenu provides a consistent UI and more ways for you to share your files.
- Share a file directly with people, chats or channels on Teams.
- Create a reusable shareable link with access restricted to whoever you choose.
- Optionally, make shareable links expire and prevent file downloads.
Item list improvements
Item list features continue to get better.
- You can now upload bigger files, with the limit increased from 1Gb+ to 5Gb+.
- The file preview now remembers the last zoom level you selected and applies it the next time you preview a file.
- Use a Document Set's Welcome Page as the default view.
UI improvements
We've made a selection of small but meaningful improvements to the user interface.
- A new icon helps you distinguish DMS Next from other MacroView products.
- Assign colours to your folders so you can find them more easily.
Everything in this release
The focus of this release is an enhanced file sharing experience. We've also included some improvements to the tree view and item list, along with the usual a range of fixes to improve product quality overall.
File sharing
We've extended the way you post links to people, group chats, meetings, and channels in Teams, making it a more uniform user experience.
We've added support for creating shared links. You can choose who can access files through a shared link, give the link an expiry date, and prevent linked files from being downloaded. You can create multiple shared links to a file, customising the user access and options for each link. To learn more about shared links, see Sharing and Managing access.
Uploading files
This release includes improvements to the file upload experience. We've added support for larger files and added a Dismiss button to the upload complete message.
The limit for large files uploads is increased to around 5Gb, up from the previous file size limit of around 1Gb. While larger files can be uploaded, performance may be affected by your internet speed or local computer specification. For larger files, Microsoft recommends avoiding drag-and-drop in a web browser; instead use a sync app, such as OneDrive, for best performance.
Search panel configuration
We've made some minor updates to the search panel configuration experience.
- The default search panel now uses the searchable managed property
mvReceivedTimeOWSDATEby default for the Received time field. - Minor UI refinements, updating some field labels:
- Min selected becomes Minimum selected.
- buttons for input and view fields become and , respectively.
User interface
- This release introduces a new DMS Next icon, making it easier to distinguish from other MacroView products. You'll see the new icon in Teams, the browser tab (favicon), on the desktop, and in the macOS app.
- Select a colour for each folder from the context menu. The folder colour is reflected in both the tree view and the item list.
- Replaced the loading indicator for short-duration processes with a generic one that better supports theme white-labelling.
Miscellaneous
This release includes more enhancements and improvements in several other areas.
Item list
- Added keyboard navigation to the item list when displayed as tiles, aligning functionally with DMS Pro.
- When you select a zoom level in the file preview modal for an email or Excel file, DMS Next remembers that and applies it to the next file preview.
Tree view
- When creating or editing a folder structure, you can now add a condition based on matching a content type.
Other improvements
- Display the version number on the Welcome page.
- Display additional license information on the Options tab.
- Added support for using a Document Set's Welcome Page view as the default view.
