Issue
Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word and PowerPoint are slow to shut down after using MacroView software.
Background
Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO) encounters a problem after displaying a WPF window in Office applications in devices that support touch/pen input devices.
This issue has been acknowledged by Microsoft and was resolved a number of years ago, however the problem has come up again in recent Windows/Office/.NET framework updates.
This problem will impact all custom VSTO add-ins that use WPF.
Solution
The current workaround is:
- Open Control Panel and select Device Manager (note: if this option isn't available, change your view in the top-right to Small or Large icons)
- Expand Human Interface Devices
- Right-click HID-compliant touch screen and select Disable
