MacroView Migrator 4.0 introduces some great changes, including unifying the email filename format between all MacroView products.
This means no matter which MacroView product you’re using, by default, whenever you save an email to SharePoint using one of our products, it will have the following format:
[SenderName][SentOnAsGMT][Subject_First20]
This format ensures that duplicate copies of the same email are not saved to the same location in SharePoint by providing an informative and unique name that is unlikely to be replicated.
For more information, see Defining the default filename for saved emails.
How this change impacts you
New users
If you are a new Migrator customer or have installed a previous version but have not started your migration, you can upgrade to Migrator 4.0 without impacting your experience.
Existing users
If you have used a previous Migrator version and started your migration process, we recommend finishing your planned migrations using your existing version.
If you upgrade to Migrator 4.0 and re-run a migration using the same source and destination paths, the source files will be uploaded again.
This is because Migrator will not detect duplicate files in this case, since the files will have slightly different names due to the email filename format changing between versions.
For example, the table below shows the migrated filename for the same email with the subject "FW: Investigate MacroViewMigrator" in the previous three versions of Migrator:
Version | Destination Filename |
---|---|
3.3.13 | John Smith_18Sep23 00.26.24_FW Investigate Macr.eml |
3.3.23 | John Smith_18Sep23 00.26.24_FW Investigate MacroV.eml |
4.0 | John Smith_18Sep2023 00.26.24_FW Investigate Macro.eml |
If you want to use the new email filename format introduced in Migrator 4.0 for new areas to migrate, you do not need to revert to a previous email filename format.
Emails will only be duplicated when re-running Migrator 4.0 over locations with the same source and destination paths.
